City of Sydney
Creative Hoarding design

the brief

1. User guidelines for street hoarding artworks
2. Cultural hoarding design system
3. Artist hoarding submission & user guidelines

Background
  • These are three projects we have worked on for the City of Sydney street hoarding design that is installed by hundreds of site developers across Sydney city, including inner-city suburbs.
  • Please note this was not an ongoing project with the City of Sydney.
  • They are three different individual projects, in different development phases of the City’s efforts to make Sydney a creative city.
Design
  • A set of user guidelines was created to guide installations.
  • A design system and six artwork examples were created for cultural site developments.
  • Artist hoarding submission, A Song from Nature was selected to be part of Site Works, a collection of ten artists’ works licensed for site development.
  • A set of user guidelines was created for Site Works to guide installations.

3. Site Work artist submission – A Song from Nature

As the City of Sydney was calling artists for the Site Work project, we took the opportunity to bring our ongoing project to the streets of Sydney. A Song from Nature is about creating a colouful, friendly and creative environment for the city. We also hope to draw the gaze to the beauty of organic nature, and inspire our city residents to take mindful actions to help save our environment.

4. Site Work user guides

As each of the 10 artworks were provided as single piece of artwork, building the user guides involved consideration for cropping and extending the artworks, applying artworks in both sloping sites and corners, and making these likely-needed amendments minimal and viable for any user who may handle the artworks and installation. All 10 artworks are different and were given thoughtful consideration.
